Inspiration

Viktor & Rolf - Fall Winter 2010/2011 Full Fashion Show Part 1

This is the fashion show of Viktor & Rolf 10/11
I find it quite interesting how they designed clothes which you can alter. There is for example one jacket which can be altered in a dress.
This is related to my work in the way that they "pile" the clothes which could be a thought about my iceas as well.

"Babuschka"

These are some pictures which have inspired me and made me think about my further work.
The Babuschka contains another Babuschka doll within another, so they are piled in each other.
In relation to my work this may be one form I can explore my work.

Definition:
A matryoshka doll, also known as a Russian nesting doll or a babushka doll, is a set of dolls of decreasing sizes placed one inside the other. The word "matryoshka" (матрёшка) is derived from the Russian female first name "Matryona" (Матрёна). The word "babuschka" is the Russian word for grandmother.

3rd workshop/light and fog

In the 3rd workshop we experimented with light, fog and different shapes.
We had to draw three different shapes on a black paper which were projected on the white wall with a strong light. While doing the fog you could see the shapes and the three colours.

Then we had to trace the shapes, which were projected on the wall, on a paper and made them out of paper. This was the 2nd part of the workshop.

After all this work I decided to sew this shapes out of calico and stuff them. In the end I had them in 3D and wrapped them around my model.
It was a kind of exercise to have a look what is happening with shadow.

Questioning

Do I feel comfortable?

Does it look good?

Does it have to look good that I feel acceptable?

Does it fit?

Is it clothes?

Would you wear it in the streets?

Is the material practical?

Is it comfortable?

Can you see through?

Do you feel dressed?

Why do I have to be dressed to feel comfortable?

Is a shadow able to dress you?

Can you alter your shadow?

How?

Have a shadow and clothes anything in common?

What is your favourite colour?

Keywords:
  • comfortable
  • common
  • dressed
  • material
These are my questions around shadow and fashion. You can answer them by yourself or with someone together.

2nd workshop/what to do with a shadow

The second workshop was divided in two parts. The first part was to try to experiment with shadow. We could use different materials or even ourselves.
It was a good exercise to get to know more about how the shadow responds to the different materials. Most important what happens when the light is closer or farer away.

This challenge was the second part.
We had to use the shadow in different ways. In our case it was a church and a nun which you can see in the shadow when Jen turns from the front to the side.
We made it out of newspaper and taped it on Jen.

all except of fabric/the nerd topic

At this exercise we were supposed to use any material except of fabric to make an outfit, accessoires, other things around clothing.
In my case I used foam wrap to create a nerdy outfit. I made a top, trousers/skirt, sock/shoes and glasses and tried to do it in a nerdy style.
Especially to take the pictures was really fun and I laughed a lot. I used some things which are expected using by a nerd.

Here are my results:

1st workshop/how to use different materials

This first workshop was all about using different materials and experimenting with them. In my case I have choosen
  • butter
  • aluminium foil
  • cling wrap
We were supposed to make garments, accessoires,... out of it.
In my opinion it was a quite creative and funny exercise. I decided to make a shoe out of this materials which you can see on the following pictures.
